Once a week at my place of employ, we have an event called SNAFU (Sunday Night All Folked Up). Usually the kind of local yokels who play such a venue are not the kind of fare I go in for. They range from the hokey and Christian to the absurdly over-wrought and crunchy granola. However a few times our resident country guitar heroes Andrew Grimm or Caleb Stine will fill in a slot and it's a good time for us bartenders who like our melancholy acoustic and with a tinge of whiskey.

Last night at 5pm as I arrived at work, T by my side, there was a group of 5 bluegrass folksters out in front of the bar playing on the sidewalk with an open case. Upright bass, snare, fiddle and guitar with two homely but beautifully voiced female singers. Later, after our SNAFU got rolling, they were setting up in the back of our 2nd floor Living Room Lounge. It was great. It was "old-timey" as Pass The Biscuits Pappy O'Daniel would put it. It was nice. I sat up on the end of the bar on the opposite side of the room, smiling over at my boss John, who must've felt a certain vindication after exposing me to so much alt-country all those years ago.

So I bought two CDs, one for me and one for my mom and step-dad.

sky blue sky

Tonight, on a Saturday of all night's, Wilco is streaming their upcoming album Sky Blue Sky from their website www.wilcoworld.net.

Starting at 10pm CST and running "into the wee hours" of the night, here's hoping it's still going when I get home at 4am EST. Should you find yourself home early then me, please check it out.... then feel free to exclaim how good it is to me later.
