trains through new england
Feels like the way that gentlemen used to travel. I like its quiet sophistication. The weekend was another wedding up in the fading lush greenery of Massachusetts in September. Nuptials can be a chore, perhaps more so if they’re not your own, but not so much this time. The family of the bride, a friend of T’s, were some of the most honest, humble, and good humored people I’ve ever met – a perfect family in a non-Stepford way. It was a joy to be in their company between the different events that now go with getting hitched. T and I travel better these days. We’re more organized, we take our separate roles, we divide and conquer the responsibilities and tasks and things go much more smoothly. I love being with her from place to place, finding the idle time between her bridesmaids duties to help her, steal a kiss and then retreat back into the posse of bridal party boyfriends. I feel a strong sense of pride at being with her, and I take a small esteem tax on every compliment regarding her beauty. Up to and including the bride and groom, there were many amazing examples of long-term, happy relationships to follow. I was repeatedly inspired by Ana and Cliff, Dayna and Kevin, Mr and Mrs. Ferriera – as hokey as it may sound, love is real. It's funny how galvanizing the happiness of others can be.
